Remarks
J.R. Forster & G. Forster (Char. Gen. Pl., ed. 2: 8. 1776) published 3 Banksia species, viz., 1) B. gnidia, 2) B. tomentosa, 3) B. prostrata. For each species, they provided a diagnosis. G. Forster (1780), under Banksia, referred to the 1776 publication; he also listed the same 3 species in the same sequence and repeated their diagnostic characters, but altered the name B. tomentosa to B. pilosa. The preceding name is superfluous and illegitimate (see Shenzhen Code Art. 52.3)
