Published as: 'Maranta (Calathea) hieroglyphica'. The IPNI editors believe Calathea hieroglyphica is published here as an alternative name for Maranta hieroglyphica which, before 1953, would be validly published. Note: this name was also published as 'Calathea (Maranta) hieroglyphica' by Linden & André in Ill. Hort. 20: 63, t. 123 (1873). Regarding the publication date: in no. 90 of the Cat. General in the RBG Kew Library there is a page headed 'Prix Remportés en Avril 1873'. We assume, therefore, that the issue was published after Apr 1873.
