Reference to the basionym indirect. For his Clerodendrum hastatum, Lindley (in Edwards's Bot. Reg. 16: t. 1307. 1830) referred to “Siphonanthus hastatus Roxb. Hort. beng. 46. 1814” (invalid) as a synonym, and in 1832, Roxburgh (posthumously) inadvertently validated the name Siphonanthus hastatus as a new combination.
