Nomenclatural Notes

Status: nom. illeg. later homonym non (L.) Nutt. (1818) [Nuttall (Gen. N. Amer. Pl. 1: 196. 1818) made the new combination Thaspium aureum and based it on Smyrnium aureum L.; Torrey & A. Gray (p. 614) accepted Zizia aurea (L.) W.D.J.Koch (based on S. aureum L.); they (p. 616) listed “T. aureum Nutt.” (without its basionym) as an accepted name and thus inadvertently created a later homonym]
