Remarks

Doty and B. C. Stone published the name H. madagascariensis Doty & B. C. Stone for the specimen on which Thouars based his description of Halophila. Rydberg's (N. Amer. Fl. 67. 30 Jun. 1907) designation of H. ovalis (R. Br.) Hook. f. (based on Caulinia ovalis R. Br.) as the type for Halophila amounts to neotypification.
