Remarks
Pfeiffer (Nomencl. Bot. 1: 1702. 1873) designated H. myuros (Lam.) P.Beauv. (Panicum myuros Lam. ('myruos')) as the lectotype species. Although Chase (in Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash. 21: 1. 23 Jan 1908) also designated A. monostachya as the LT. species, her designation was done with an explicit reference to the “American Code”, i.e. it was supersedable under Art. 10.5(b). Neither Chase not Niles referred to Pfeiffer's 1873 designation. [see G. Panigrahi & A. K. Dubey (Taxon 35(2): 338-340. 1986), who rejected Pfeiffer's designation as in serious conflict with the protologue of Hymenachne and accepted A. monostachya as the LT. species.]
