Wight & Arnott (Prodr. Fl. Ind. Orient. 1: 160-161. 1834) listed Celastrus montanus Roxb. (1824) as an accepted name and C. montanus Roth (1819) as a synonym. Bentham (l.c.) listed ‘G. montana, W. and Arn. Prodr. 159 (under Celastrus)’ (sic) as an accepted name and cited ‘Celastrus montanus, Roxb.; W. and Arn. l.c., with all the synonyms quoted …’ Thus Bentham indirectly referred to the basionym C. montanus Roth
