Remarks
Although Nees and Martius seemed to have adopted the epithet pretiosa from Cryptocarya pretiosa Mart. (1829), a name applied to the same taxon (see Nees. Syst. Laur. 237. 1836), they did not refer to the basionym either directly or indirectly. But they cited Laurus quixos Lam. (1792) in synonymy. For this reason, some works (e.g., P.F.R. Moraes & A. Falcade, Harvard Pap. Bot. 20(2): 170. 2015) treat M. pretiosa as illegitimate. However, under Art. 41.4 Ex. 10, M. pretiosa is treated as a new combination based on C. pretiosa.
