Remarks
Although Melvin based his Leucothoë walteri on A. walteri Willd. (1809) (nom. superfl. & illegit. for A. axillaris Lam. 1783), he explicitly excluded A. axillaris Lam. from his L. walteri. Therefore, A. walteri does not serve as the basionym. Melvin referred, among others, to A. lanceolata Desf. (1829), which he thought as invalid. But A. lanceolata Desf. is valid (non Wall. 1820), replaced by A. fontnesiana Steud. (1840).
