Perhaps, unaware of the priority of the name Mimosa pigra L. (1755) over M. asperata L. (1759), Willdenow made the incorrect new combination “Mimosa asperata L. var. pigra (L.) Willd.” Barneby (Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 65: 440. 1991) stated that the preceding new combination is illegitimate
