Remarks

The Wallich Cat. #6510 shows Buchanan-Hamilton’s epithet as “ghonta”. Mark Watson (E) checked Buchanan-Hamilton’s manuscript of his Bengal collections and remarked that Buchanan-Hamilton frequently used the vernacular names in coining new botanical names and in this case, the epithet was derived from the name ‘Ghonta’ for this plant in Bengal. Additionally, two labels on a type specimen (N. Wallich #6510 at GDC (G00133401)) show the epithet as ghonta.
