Remarks
Reichenbach (in Saunders, Refug. Bot. 2(1): t. 83. 1869) listed ‘C. discolor (Lindl. Bot. Reg. 1844, p. 34!) C. fimbriatum, Rchb. f. MSS.’ (sic) as an accepted name, provided a detailed description, cited ‘Monochanthus fimbriatus, Hook., Bot. Mag. 1839, 3708’ as a synonym, and remarked that “This variety was originally discovered …’ At the end of the treatment, Saunders mentioned ‘This variety of Catasetum discolor …’ It is evident that Reichenbach intended to publish a new varietal name, but he did not use a trinomial. Subsequently, he (sub t. 137) made the correction as ‘It is necessary to correct on Tab. 83 the name to Catasetum discolor, Lindl., var. fimbriatum, Rehb. f. MS., in lieu of the quite inexplicable C. discolor, Lindl., C. fimbriatum, Rehb. f.’
