Nomenclatural Notes
Status: isonym Makino (in Makinoa 9: 175. 1948) published the genus name Zabelia and based it on Abelia sect. Zabelia Rehder (in C. S. Sargent, Pl. Wilson. 1: 124. 1911). Makino’s publication did not require a Latin description for the valid publication of the genus name. However, Hisauti and H.Hara (l.c.) assumed that Makino’s publication was invalid and mentioned that they “… supply the technical latin description of the genus and propose specific transfers from Abelia in order to validate them under the present code of botanical nomenclature”
