Remarks

Wallich (1831) published Villarsia parvifolia (nom. nud.). George Don (l.c.) validated the Wallich name as V. parviflora (Wall. Cat. no. 4351) (sic) and remarked Flowers small. He did not mention the epithet “parvifolia”. In his description of Limnanthemum parvifolium, Grisebach (1845) mentioned the leaves as parvis, but did not mention flowers, and referred to “Villarsia parvifolia Wall. cat. 4351! (v.s. incompl.)” (sic). He did not refer to G. Don. Since both epithets can be correct and since G. Don and Grisebach referred to Wallich, it is evident that one of the epithets is an error. Jackson (Index Kewensis 2(2): 1203. 1895) accepted V. parvifolia and rejected V. parviflora as a “sphalm.” (see Shenzhen Code Art. 61.3)
