Remarks

Etymology: Named after the Mapinguarí, a legendary and elusive creature of Brazilian-Amazonian mythology, in allusion to the brownish, cryptic flowers. (vide authors) Gender: Having no botanical tradition, the authors treated this generic name as masculine (cf., Vienna Code Art. 62.3).
