Nees ascribed V. scabra to Labill., this ascription is an indirect reference to Festuca scabra Labill. (1805, non Vahl 1791); the latter name is the replaced synonym of Triticum scabrum R.Br.(1810). For his V. brauniana, Nees cited T. scabrum as a synonym, which is construed as: T. scabrum p.p. (excluding type). Thus, V. brauniana was published as a sp. nov.
