Remarks
Although Macbride referred to Cactus opuntia L. (1753) as a synonym, he avoided making the new combination Opuntia opuntia (L.) J.F.Macbr. (a tautonym; invalid). He, however, erred in citing C. compressus Salisb. (illegitimate) as the basionym and Salisb. as the parenthetical author (correctable errors).
