Some regard this name as nom. illeg. non Poiret (1811), however as Poiret did not validly make the combination, this name should be regarded as legitimate, unless the combination based on Rhynchospora laxa R.Br. has been made earlier than 1903. Base name for Schoenus sublaxus K?k.
