Remarks

Publication seen at P. Orthographic variants include LAGENOPHORA Cass., Dict. Sci. Nat. 25 (Nov. 1822) 109; LAGEROPHORA Domin, Biblioth. Bot. Heft 89 (1929) 653, 730. See paper by D.J.N.Hind & C.Jeffrey, Kew Bull. 43 (1988) 329-331 where a case is put for acceptance of the spelling LAGENOPHORA over LAGENIFERA. Acceptance is dependant upon one's interpretation of what constitutes typographic and orthographic errors. LAGENOPHORA was proposed for conservation and rejected (see Taxon 17 (1968) 329 following a majority opinion that conservation was not necessary. There are, however, two interpretations of this ruling - 1). that conservation was not necessary and that one should use the original spelling and 2). that conservation was not necessary as correction was in accordance with the Code. Opinion from members of the Committee at the time seems to favour the latter, however the matter needs to be resolved. Base name for BELLIS sect. LAGENOPHORA (Cass.) Baillon.
