Nomenclatural Notes
Status: nom. illeg. nom. superfl. Anisolotus mollis A.Heller (1912) is a legitimate new name for Hosackia mollis Greene 1885 (non Nutt. 1838). Likewise, Lotus greenei Ottley (1939) is a legitimate new name for H. mollis Greene (non L. mollis Balf.f. 1882). In contrast, A. greenei Wooton & Standl. (1913) is a superfluous illegitimate name. Sokoloff proposed Ottleya greenei as a new combination and based it on A. greenei. Although Sokoloff’s citation of the basionym is correctable from A. greenei to L. greenei, his new combination O. greenei was superfluous and illegitimate when published. He should have made the new combination “O. mollis”
