Apr. 1881, with a note to say that in the original publication the epithet was inadvertently written as 'greyi' and that this mistake was repeated in 'Sketch of the Flora of Canterbury'; the epithet was named to honour Mr. W.Gray of Ohinitahi, an ardent and efficient collector of New Zealand plants.
