Validated by a diagnosis in English (Art. 42.1). Although not typified, based on the description, the name appears to be a synonym of Salix ×hermaphroditica L., as suggested by Merrill (1949: 107). However, given the orthographic difference (hermaphrodita vs. hermaphroditica) and the existence of a validating diagnosis in English, the original orthography is retained as Rafinesque adopted a Latin form of the Greek hermaphroditos (ερμα ρόδιτος).
