Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be based on Salix ×hippophaefolia Thuill., Fl. Env. Paris, ed. 2, 514. 1799, pro sp., as suggested by Merrill (1949: 106), Rafinesque did not refer to Thuillier. Thus, the existence of a later homonym, S. hippophaefolia Wimm. & Grab., Fl. Siles. 2: 363. 1829, precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Thuillier (Lim et al., 2013)
