Remarks

Under the binomial Leucas lanata, Haines (p. 747) mentioned that ‘var. candida occurs on the hills of the Central Provinces, and is easily distinguishable by the beautiful dense pure white tomentum and broadly ovate rounded leaves, larger flowers and calyx-teeth up to '09. It appears to me to be separate from true L. lanata and also from the Parasnath plant (= var. nagpurensis);’ he (p. 748, lines 1-2) remarked on var. nagpurensis as ‘this looks more like a variety of L. montana than of L. lanata or L. Candida (mihi)’; in the index (p. 1313), the name L. candida is listed in Roman (accepted name). It is construed here that Haines inadvertently published L. candida and L. lanata var. candida as alternative names, and that both names are valid
