Remarks
Etymology: 'In reference to the town of San José de Punín, Pastaza, Ecuador, where the type was collected, and nocturnum, in reference to the group of species where this species is placed, and that in reference to the nocturnal fragrance typical of these Sphingid (Lepidoptera) pollinated species. Name not to be confused with the Parrish of Punín, part of the city of Riobamba, Chimborazo, also in Ecuador, located at a much higher altitude in the inter Andean valley.'
