doi:10.1007/s12228-021-09690-9 Etymology: 'The epithet “pongo-qonecensis” is named after the locality Pongo de Qoñec, which in the Quechua language, means “hot door” in reference to the concentration of high temperature and humidity in the approximately 6 km long canyon where the upper Madre de Dios river flows'.
