G. Don made this new combination inadvertently; he cited Spiraea paniculata (Willd. spec. 2. p. 1055), which is an error. Willdenow did not treat S. paniculata; he treated S. salicifolia on p. 1055 and var. paniculata Aiton on p. 1056.
