Within a single protologue, Aspidium boryanum Willd. and A. elatum Bory were simultaneously published as alternative names; each name is provided with its own description. Willdenow, the publishing author of the 1810 work, accepted A. boryanum and cited A. elatum as a synonym, thus establishing priority of A. boryanum over A. elatum (see Melbourne Code Art. 11.5)
