Remarks

Arctostaphylos ohloneana superficially resembles A. pungens and A. manzanita, but it presents distinctive characters that separate it from these two species. Unlike the tetraploid A. manzanita, A. ohloneana is diploid, and it lacks the distinctive nascent inflorescence of A. pungens. (vide abstract). Etymology: The specific epithet honors people of Native American Ohlone ancestry who occupied the Santa Cruz Mountains before European colonization.
