Reference to the basionym is indirect; when published J. D. Hooker's comb. nov. was incorrect; he cited Ehretia umbellulata Wall. (1824) as a synonym; later works treated I. godajam and I. umbellulata (Wall.) Loes. as distinct species (cf., S. Y. Hu, J. Arnold Arbor. 30: 313, 315. 1949; D. Basu, Fl. India 5: 58, 70. 2000); therefore, I. godajam became a correct name (cf., St. Louis Code Art. 52.3).
