Remarks
Melanthium luteum (L.) Thunb. (1784) and M. luteum (L.) Willd. (1808) are isonyms and were based on Veratrum luteum L. For his M. japonicum, Willdenow cited M. japonicum Thunb., but excluded its basionym V. luteum. Therefore, it is evident that Willdenow cited “M. luteum sensu Thunb.” as a synonym and that the name M. japonicum was legitimate when published
