Nomenclatural Notes
Status: nom. inval. Braun did not accept P. P. leucostachya; he did treat Penicillaria deflexa Anders. ex A. Braun, P. macrostachya Klotzsch ex A. Braun, and P. leucostachya Klotzsch ex A. Braun with descriptions, but under the last species description, Braun mentioned: P. deflexam, macrostachyam et leucostachyam, quamquam facile disiinguendas, tamen ejusdem typi specifici modificationes esse censeo, sub nomine communi Penicillariae nigritarum conjungendas (= P. deflexa, macrostachya and leucostachya, although easily told apart, are nevertheless in my opinion modifications of the same species unit, to be united under the common name Penicillaria nigritarum). None of the 3 species names was validly published (vide Werner Greuter (B); pers. comm.)
