Remarks
Dennstedt did not provide a description; he (pp. 9, 19, 31) referred to von Rheede (Hort. Malab. 5: 101, t. 51. 1685), and the preceding reference has a description and a plate with analysis. Since Manitz (in Taxon 17: 500. 1968) considered Baldingera glandulosa as the names of a new monotypic genus (Baldingera) and its single new species (B. glandulosa), he cited Baldingera glandulosa as invalid (see ICN Art. 38.5 (c)). In contrast, Kanis (in Taxon 36: 100. 1987) argued that Dennstedt did not publish Baldingera as the name of a new genus, but misapplied the existing genus Baldingera Gaertn. & al. (1799; a grass genus) to a dicotyledonous taxon. Dan Nicolson (Interpr. Van Rheede's Hort. Malab. 229. 1988) and Werner Greuter (B; pers. comm.) accepted Kanis’s interpretation that Dennstedt did not publish Baldingera as the name of a new genus.
