Status: nom. inval. Raf. provided a description and mentioned: This G(enus). or subg(enus). will include nearly all the American sp. with muricate fruits, very distinct from the Asiatic kinds. He did not assign even a single species to Nebropsis, but assigned 8 species (nos. 298-305) to Aesculus, e.g., Aesc. (Nebropsis) muricata Raf. It is evident that Raf. treated Nebropsis at the rank of subgenus (see Melbourne Code Art. 36.1 Ex. 1)
