Remarks
Since Moq. misspelled the type collector's name as Gardn. (instead of Gordon (i.e., Alexander Gordon, who collected in La Platte, Nebraska)) and coined the epithet as gardneri, Hooker (in Hooker's J. Bot. Kew Gard. Misc. 5: 261. 1853) corrected the epithet from gardneri to gordoni. H. Beak (in Gen. Sp. Synon. Cand. 316. 1858) accepted Hooker's correction and replaced O. gardneri with O. gordoni. J. McNeill et al. (Taxon 32(4): 554. 1983) argued that gardneri is neither a typographical nor an orthographical error; they rejected Hooker's correction and retained gardneri.
