Rydberg, perhaps unaware of the existence of S. densiflora Nutt. ex Greenm. 1898 (superfl. & illegit. for S. arbuscula Greene 1895), used S. densiflora Nutt. as an accepted name, provided a description, and cited S. arbuscula as a synonym of S. splendens É.N.Baumann ex K.Koch (1875).
