Remarks
Falsa species est: Vernonia triplinervia Sprg. syst. III. p. 435. N. 19,quae constiluit novum genus (Polypappum) e tribu Asterearum et sectione Baccharidearum, a genere Baccharide ipso nonnisi pappo pluriseriali distinctum atque nullo affinitatis vinculo cum Vernonia conjunctutm. The pappus character (pluriseriali) distinguishes the new genus Popypappum. An anonymous author (in Bull. Sci. Nat. Geol. 23: 247-248. 1830) and Lessing (in Linnaea 6: 149. 1831) corrected the spelling of the genus name to: Polypappus. Both Polypappum and Polypappus are orth. vars., and Polypappus is retained here. (see Melbourne Code Art. 61.1)
