Nomenclatural Notes
Status: nom. illeg. nom. superfl. Linnaeus (Sp. Pl. 1: 26. 1753) published Salvia africana lutea (as Salvia afr.lutea), an invalid name. Jackson (Index Kew. 2: 793. 1895) cited S. lutea L., Sp. Pl. 1: 26 as an accepted name, and this 1895 validates the name S. lutea L. ex B.D.Jacks. Eprling, who believed in the existence of S. lutea L. (1753), treated S. lutea Kunth (1818) as a later homonym, proposed S. ochrantha as a nom.nov., and thus created a superfluous illegitimate name.
