Both Eaton (1829) and G. Don (1834), who did not provide a description for their relevant species, reproduced Torrey's description verbatim (Torrey, Ann. Lyceum Nat. Hist. New York 2: 205. 1827: no. 171 (of E. James collection) S(edum)., n.sp. Nutt. Leaves roundish, flat, entire, scattered; cymes terminal, trichotomous).
