Remarks
Some works treat Zanthoxylum spinosum as a new combination based on Sapindus spinosus L. (1762). Swartz (1797) did not refer to the Linnaean name; he referred to Fagara spinosa Sw. (1788) as a synonym. De Candolle (Prodr. 1: 726, 728. 1824) treated Z. spinosum (Sw.) Sw. (based on F. spinosa) and Z. sapindoides DC. (based on S. spinosus) as distinct species; his nomenclature is accepted here [The Shenzhen Code Art. 41.4 does not apply here]
