Status: nom. illeg. nom. superfl. protologue: “P. procera Gray, Am. Jour. Sci. (II) 34:251, 1862; not P. prorera Adams, ex. Stev. in Mem. Soc. Nat. Mosc, 6:33, 1823”. Perhaps, unaware of the invalid publication of “Pedicularis procera Adams ex Steven,” Nelson proposed P. grayi as a replacement name for P. procera A.Gray, a legitimate name.
