Jordaan & van Wyk (Taxon 55(2): 522. 2006) erred in stating that In Gymnosporia, G. polyacanthus Szyszylowicz (1888) is the earliest names for this taxon; a transfer based on P(olyacanthus). angustifolius C. Presl is blocked by G. angustifolius (C. Presl ex Sond.) Bolus & Wolley-Dod. The preceding new combination was made in 1903.
