Remarks

For many nomenclatural novelties published in his 5-volume work, William T. Aiton, referenced to ‘Brown mss.’, and for such names, Brown has been accepted as the author, e.g., genus name Pleurothallis, species name Baptisia alba (see Madrid Code Art. 46 Ex. 25). Although Aiton referenced the generic treatment of Calotropis to ‘Brown asclep. 28 [1810]’, this reference is not considered as equivalent to the citation of ‘Brown mss.’, and the new combination C. gigantea is attributed to W.T.Aiton
