Status: nom. illeg. later homonym non Holmgrenia Lindb. 1863 (a moss plant).
Remarks
Generic name honors the Holmgren family: Arthur Hermann Holmgren (1912-1992), Noel Herman Holmgren (1937-) and Patricia Kern Holmgren (1940-) for their contribution to the botanical knowledge of the western United States. For Holmgrenia, Wagner & Hoch provided a Latin diagnosis and flagged the taxon as a gen. nov. (a correctable error). Type: H. hilgardii (Greene) W. L. Wagner & Hoch (Oenothera hilgardii Greene).
