Remarks

Barneby (Intermt. Fl. 3B: 9. 1989) preferred to typify C. occidentalis and var. texensis S. Watson (1878) with the Lindheimer element from Texas and assign the Californian plants to C. canadensis var. orbiculata (Greene) Barneby.
