Remarks
For his Hedysarum sororium, Linnaeus (1771) gave a description and included Glycine monophyllos Burm.f. (Fl. Ind. 161, t. 50, fig. 2 1768, non G. monophylla L. 1767) as a synonym. It is noted here that for the name G. monophyllos, the plate 50, fig. 2 can serve as an original material for typification. The status of H. sororium, whether the name of a new species or a replacement name for G. monophyllos, is linked to the typification of the Linnaean name. One may treat G. monophyllos and H. sororium as homotypic or heterotypic. In this regard, Nemoto & al. (in J. Jap. Bot. 85(5): 309. 2010) lectotypified H. sororium with a specimen at LINN. Therefore, the name H. sororium is treated as the name of a new species. [Nemoto & al. (p. 306) erred in mentioning that ‘Linnaeus (1771) published Hedysarum sororium citing Burman’s G. monophyllos as the replaced synonym’]
