Eponymy (in Bot. Mag. (Tokyo) 47: 675 (English & Latin). 20 Oct 1933): The species is named in honour of Baron M. MATUDA, Civil Governor of Japanese Mandate Territory, through whose support I have been able to continue the botanical exploration of the Islands.
