Remarks

Linnaeus (Sp. Pl. vols. 1-2. 1753) used many noun epithets written with an initial capital letter and listed the epithets in vol. 2 of Sp. Pl. (Index, Nomina Trivialia section). He (Sp. Pl. 1: 459. 1753) cited the epithet as “Helioscopia”, but did not include it in Nomina Trivialia section. In his later publications (e.g., Syst. Nat. (ed. 10, 2: 1049, no. 40. 1759; Sp. Pl. ed. 2, 1: 658. 1762), he cited the epithet as “helioscopia”. Therefore, his (1753) citation of “Helioscopia” is treated as an error for “helioscopia”.
