Type Information

Type Name
P. radicata (L.) Cass. (Hypochaeris radicata L.)

Remarks

In 1822, Porcellites was not accompanied by descriptive material, but was nevertheless validly published by reference to two earlier, effectively published generic descriptions, of Hypochaeris by Moench (Methodus: 549. 1794) and of Achyrophorus by Gaertner (Fruct. Sem. Pl. 2: 370. 1791). The type must be selected from the context of the validating description. Gaertner and Moench included a single named species: Hypochaeris radicata L., the (subsequently designated) type of Hypochaeris L. Therefore Porcellites is a legitimate name but a homotypic synonym of Hypochaeris L. (from Werner Greuter (B)).
