Smith and Kress published ‘C. sphaerocephala (Baker) Smith & Kress’ as a new combination and based it on ‘Aechmea sphaerocephala Baker, J. Bot. 17:162. 1879’; however, A. sphaerocephala itself is a new combination, which was indirectly based on C. sphaerocephala Gaudich. (1856)
